Sambhar is very similar to this Split Pea stew, with added Sambhar spice blend and some veggies like carrot, eggplant, drumstick, squashes and more. Sambhar masala spice blend is like garam masala but with certain specific spices. It usually has some or all of coriander seeds, fenugreek seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, mustard seeds, curry leaves, chana dal, red chillies, peppercorns. Sambhar is a traditional stew from south India. Here are more details about the different varieties that can be made.
Try this Vegan Hummus Pizza Recipe!
I usually make my sambhar a bit thicker(with less water) and it gets even more thicker as it cools. The stew can then be used like hummus, as a dip, or on a Pizza like this Chana Masala Hummus Pizza, or in sandwiches like these sammies.
All thick Dals can be used similarly. More Dals/stews here.
More Pizzas here. glutenfree crust options too.
Steps:
Shape the dough. Ladle 2-3 ladle full dal stew on top and spread evenly.
Top with tomato slices, and bell pepper slices.
Top with onions and jalapenos.
Sprinkle salt and pepper or chili powder. Top with daiya pepper jack or mozzarella or home made mozzarella or pepper jack.
Bake in preheated 400 degrees F for 18-20 minutes.
